FLF101 Business French – Foundation Level

Business French (Foundation Level) is a course meant to help learners develop basic oral, written, and hearing skills in French. Through interactive writing, assignments and in-class oral role-plays, learners will have the opportunity to develop communicative competence and enhance their writing skills with newly acquired vocabularies and grammatical structures.

Because Business French (Foundation Level) is an elementary French course for learners with little or no prior knowledge of French, the course will give an introduction to the basic structures of French with intensive work on interpersonal communication in written, oral and hearing forms. As in other French courses, lessons will be conducted entirely in French, with English interpretation where and when necessary. Learners will be guided through a variety of communicative activities that will expose them to considerable knowledge of spoken French and lead them from structured practice to free expression.

Course Objectives: On completion, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the basic grammatical structure of the French language expected of the beginning level learner.
  • Communicate in various practical situations at a beginner’s level of proficiency.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the basics of French pronunciation, be able to recognize words from sound and be able to reproduce words with correct pronunciation.
  • Demonstrate a mastery of the four communicative language skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing, at a beginner’s level of proficiency.

Methods of instruction will include lectures, homework, interactive work with the instructor and classmates, and use of audio and video files both in class and at home. Classroom interactions will be balanced with structured grammar, vocabulary and phonetic drills. Interactive activities will be task-based and will put the learner in real-life situations.
