About this Course

 

Employees are an organisation’s most important asset. As such, Human Resources (HR) plays an integral part of any organisation and its effective planning and management ensures that organisations can achieve their strategic objectives as well as meet employee needs and requirements. In addition to understanding organisational requirements, HR professionals/managers must also be able to develop HR frameworks tailored to their organisation’s operational needs and the legal requirements for their respective sectors. In Sierra Leone, although the underlying legal principles are the same, terms and conditions especially for junior staff are sector dependent. Such nuances in the context of labor law need to be effectively adhered to and managed to avoid industrial relation issues as well as to save costs.

Course Objectives: On completion, you will be able to:

 

  • Understand the role of HR in an organisation
  • Understand the links between HR Strategies and the Organisation’s strategies
  • Develop appropriate HR Frameworks: Policies, Organisational charts/structures
  • Understand and navigate the Legal Framework of HR in Sierra Leone (Labor Law and Collective Bargaining Agreements)
  • Effectively manage staff within the organisation: Disciplinary and Reward systems and processes
  • Conflict Management techniques, processes and structures for Managers and Supervisors
  • Help Managers build effective work teams for achievement of organisational goals
  • Improve effectiveness of Managers, Supervisors and lower level staff in the organisation
  • Improve workplace relations and create productive work environment

Course Facilitator

Violet ASGILL is a Human Resources professional with 20 years of experience working in the Human Resources field. She is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel Development (MCIPD), holds a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management and a BA in Human Resources and Law in Business.

Violet is CEO and Founder of Craft Human Resources Limited an outsource Human Resources Management Company which provides Human Resources support to a number of small and medium size companies in Sierra Leone.

Violet has worked at senior management level for a number of years both in the UK and Sierra Leone and was the former Director of Planning and Resources for the Place at Tokeh Beach and the Director of Human Resources for Sierra Fishing Company. Violet has a wealth of experience in Strategic HR, Organisational Development, Change Management and Business Process Re-engineering. She is a certified Trainer and also one of the owners of the Warehouse Night Club.
